“When we are no longer able to change a situation – we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Viktor Frankl

What inspires you to be a teacher?
Teaching, coaching, and counselling is profoundly fulfilling because it allows me to use my creativity to help others understand and explore their potential. My journey began with a passion for research and a desire to support others’ growth. Over time, I realised that guiding people through their learning and self-discovery processes is where my true values lie.

The dynamic nature of helping professions demands innovative approaches to explaining concepts, tailoring each method to fit the unique needs of every individual. This process is akin to solving a complex puzzle, where every piece represents a different aspect of human understanding. The challenge of finding the best way to convey these ideas stimulates my creativity, making each teaching experience both rewarding and invigorating.

About me
Originally from the Caribbean, my research career took me around the globe. Over time, I recognised the importance of supporting others’ growth – something that was not valued in my previous role. Consequently, I aimed to establish a place where I could express and be acknowledged for my values by enrolling at the ACC. I enjoy gardening and brewing beer with hops I helped cultivate.

My expertise and passion
Exploring my subconscious is a passion, and I find satisfaction in helping others discover their inner worlds. Guided visualisations are a vital part of my practice because of their adaptability. For some clients, the critical mind – an essential element of cognitive function – can impede the effectiveness of coaching and counselling. Visualisations offer a way to bypass the obstacles created by the critical mind.

Why do you like to work for the ACC?
The humanistic approach embraced by the ACC resonates with my values, especially in creating an environment where individuals feel safe to express their authentic selves. As I mentioned earlier, I am passionate about teaching, so I eagerly embraced the opportunity when it arose.

Oprah as a role model
Viktor Frankl is a powerful inspiration due to his ability to transform unimaginable hardship into meaning. My freedom lies in choosing how I ascribe meaning to the world. Frankl reminds me (us?) that no experience is too dreadful to learn from. Post-traumatic growth encourages us to view challenges not as insurmountable obstacles but as opportunities for transformation.
