Shaheen Nazir (assistant teacher)
“When the going gets tough, the tough gets going” – Joseph. P. Kennedy
What inspires you to be an assistant teacher?
After completing my 2 year course with the ACC, I wanted to acquire more practical experience before I start my own practice. Being an assistant teacher not only helps me to do so, but also gives me an opportunity to learn from different teachers and guide new students in their journey. Plus a change of role opens up doors to new perspectives.
About me
I am originally from Mumbai, India and have been living in Utrecht, Netherlands for the last 9 years with my husband and our 2 children. I have a Bachelor of Arts (major in Philosophy) graduate degree and have studied Psychology as a subject for four years as part of my higher secondary and graduate programme. I have always had a keen interest in psychology and understanding human behaviour. I was a teacher in India, but with growing awareness regarding mental health and well-being I chose to pursue a career in counselling after moving to The Netherlands.
Why have you chosen the ACC and what did the training bring you?
While searching for courses in counselling I came across the ACC. They offered high quality, accredited and certified courses in English. The training programme not only covers in-depth theory and practical information, but also focuses on connecting with one’s human side. This combination has helped me in my overall development and better understanding of the profession.
Who is my hero and why?
Anyone who shows resilience irrespective of what life brings, has the courage to stand up and fight to the best of their ability is a hero for me.
