Nienke van Wijngaarden (assistant teacher)

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. ” – Aristotle

What inspires you to be an assistant teacher?
In education I’ve been working for more than 20 years as a teacher, principal and special needs coordinator. Education offered by the ACC taught me to finetune the skills of coaching and counselling. The opportunity to combine both education and coaching as an assistant teacher feels like the natural step to take. With positive energy I’m looking forward to being there to assist during class days with future colleagues.

About me
During my teacher training I did my internships abroad. I’ve worked in The Hague and at the east border of The Netherlands in multicultural environments. The driver in my work with students, colleagues and others involved, is the question; “ What is the function of the behaviour?”. From the position of truly wanting to connect, to understand and to grow, we can build towards the future of tomorrow together. Now I’m working online as a transformative coach, trainer and teacher.

Why have you chosen the ACC and what did the training bring you?
I’ve chosen for the ACC because of the possibility to learn within an international group in English online. To be in contact with people from all over the world, with different cultural backgrounds, religions, values and history is enriching within learning the craftsmanship of coaching and counselling. I’ve learned to finetune in both coaching and counselling thanks to the literature, the theory explained by the teacher and the practice during class days and with practice clients. The feedback given during the class days has been a wonderful opportunity to grow.

Who is my hero and why?
A Hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. (Christopher Reeve) Jane Goodall gives an inside in how we’re connected with nature and animals. My grandmother lived her life with an open heart, positive attitude and had wise words to share. At the end of the day everybody who is willing to grow into the most authentic version of themselves is a hero in my eyes.
